How To Make Your Own Grape Jelly: A Review of the Hillbilly Housewife’s Grape Jelly Recipe

Bealer eats peanut butter and jelly sandwiches every day at work.
He loves them.  A lot.
But since we buy organic, it’s become expensive at four dollars a jar.
So I decided to try my hand at making our own jelly.
(Peanut butter will follow…whenever I get a food processor that is…).
I found a fantastic homesteading resource on the internet called
The Hillbilly Housewife.
Let me tell you…that woman is a freakin’ genius!
 Her blog is full of great recipes and meal ideas on the cheap….
all using whole, real foods.  Love her.
Find her original recipe at the end of the post.
Start with this:
Organic grape juice, pectin, and raw sugar.
Side note:  1 package of pectin equals 3 1/2 TBS if you buy in bulk.
Cook it on the stove:
carrots,dining,eating,food,household,pots,soups,vegetables,steaming hot,healthy
(Forgot to take the picture…it looked exactly like this though)
Pour it into sterilized jars:
And either utilize regular canning methods (to keep for about a year),
or stick the jars in the fridge (to keep for a spell) and…
Waaaahlaaaah!
You got yourself some grape jelly.
My overall judgement?

One container of juice cost $4.00.  The sugar we buy in bulk as well as the pectin.  All together, you’re getting 15 jars of jelly for the price of less than two store bought jars.  Pretty freakin’ sweeeeet!
